Can anyone remember the biscuit counter in Woolworths. I particularly remember the Woolies on Shields Road. If I remember rightly the biscuit counter was double sided and the assistants stood in the middle with tins of open biscuits all around them. There were all sorts of biscuits and you could get a 1llb of broken biscuits cheap. Also you could order a 1lb of mixed biscuits and get a few from each box. I loved Woolies when I was a kid it sold everything. When I was a teenager the makeup counter was my favourite. I remember buying hair lacquer that made your hair so hard you could hardly get a brush through. Happy days.
When i was a kid my mother used to give me two bob
so i could stay for school dinners,i used to buy a
lb of broken biscuits at woolworths on Gateshead
high street for a shilling and spend the rest on sweets.
school meals were sixpence and a gang of us used to get threepeneth worth of chips from tom morrises fish shop then cross over the road to sandy's paper shop and get a twopenny woodbine and a penny sherbet or a licorice root, used to feel real big
